As a popular old Spanish song goes: “Madrí, Madrí, Madrí... and from Madrid to heaven.”

Together with London, Paris and Rome, Madrid is one of the great European capitals. True, it doesn’t have a major navigable river or lie near the sea, but it’s a city that knows how to enjoy life — and one that welcomes everyone, no matter where they come from. Anyone who lives here, regardless of their origin, is immediately seen as a local. You may be from Helsinki, but if you live in Madrid, “you are from Madrid.”

The blue sky and wonderful climate help a lot. It's true that July and August can be hot — quite hot — but the heat is dry, and the rest of the year the seasons are beautifully defined.

For a capital city, Madrid feels relatively easy. Traffic is more or less manageable, public transport is excellent and very affordable, and the range of things to do — from exhibitions to concerts — comes at prices much more accessible than in most other capitals. It’s also a very safe city, and walking around, whether during the day or at night, is always a pleasure.

Naturally, Madrid has well-defined neighbourhoods and districts, such as the aristocratic Retiro, with its vast and beautiful park; Barrio de Salamanca, where our boutique is located; or elegant residential areas like El Viso. But to begin with, we recommend getting lost in the old town — the Madrid de los Austrias. Having breakfast or lunch in the Plaza de Oriente, facing the Royal Palace and the Opera House, is always a delight. In one of the corners of that square, you'll find our showroom, just off the Plaza de la Encarnación. Please come and visit us — we’d love to welcome you and show you who we are and how we work.

From the Royal Palace, you can walk to the iconic Puerta del Sol, follow the Carrera de San Jerónimo, and reach the Spanish Parliament. You might also take a stroll down Calle de Alcalá and admire its beautiful architecture, as well as the buildings on Gran Vía, just around the corner.

Back near Parliament, you’re already in the heart of Madrid’s museum triangle, home to the world-famous Prado Museum, the refined Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Museo Reina Sofía for contemporary art. And don’t miss the La Caixa Foundation, with its impressive vertical garden designed by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Because Madrid has so much to offer, we have curated a selection of places you are sure to enjoy.

MUSEUMS:

Besides the main museums mentioned above, it’s also worth visiting the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of the Americas. Other gems include the house-museums and art collections of Joaquín Sorolla (in the painter’s former home), Lázaro Galdiano, and Cerralbo.

HOTELS:

Hotels in Madrid — whatever the category — are generally excellent, and offer incredible value for money. Here are some of our favourites:

ONLY YOU: Our personal favourite. Located on Calle Barquillo, in the vibrant Chueca neighbourhood.

PALACIO DE SANTO MAURO: Small, aristocratic, and chic. Located in a very elegant area near Paseo de la Castellana.

THE PRINCIPAL: A unique hotel that feels more like a private club, at the start of Gran Vía.

FOUR SEASONS MADRID: Recently opened. Several historic buildings joined together on Calle Alcalá. Meticulous restoration of a former bank. Its rooftop terrace is spectacular, perfect for lunch or dinner. The customer service is excellent, with great local recommendations. And its spa is not only stunning — it’s the best in town.

THE RITZ MANDARIN: Newly reopened after a magnificent renovation. It has regained its place among the most exclusive hotels in Madrid. Special mention goes to its refined gastronomic offer and elegant main restaurant.

RESTAURANTS AND TAPAS BARS:

LA LONJA DEL MAR. Just steps from our showroom, in the stunning Plaza de Oriente. A lovely terrace, ideal after a visit.

The classic and very elegant HORCHER(gentlemen should wear a jacket, preferably with a tie).

MERCI. Stylish and well-priced. Located near Braganza–Barquillo.

GINKGO BAR. Rooftop of the VP Plaza de España Hotel. Breathtaking views and live music.

•    For tapas, we recommend: Calle de Ibiza and its surroundings, Calle Ponzano, and the terraces near Puerta de Alcalá.

Madrid’s culinary scene is so rich and varied that we suggest picking up a copy of the Metrópoli Guide — it offers the best and most up-to-date information on the city’s atmosphere, food, style, and more. Enjoy your stay!
